SUMMARY:Project Exploration Giving Tuesday Extravaganza
DESCRIPTION:Join us!\nJoin us Tuesday December 3rd for the Project Exploration Giving Tuesday Extravaganza! We hope you consider donating to our campaign and the continued mission of Project Exploration! \nOur campaign\nThis year Project Exploration aims to raise $50\,000 which will go towards providing project-based learning and unique educational opportunities in STEM for especially Black and Brown youth on Chicago’s West and South Sides. \nProject Exploration also recently received a grant from the Girls Opportunity Alliance (GOA) to establish a Sisters4Science Design Lab at the Frederick Douglass STEM Learning Center (SLC) at the Frederick Douglass High School in Austin to serve middle to high school girls. \nFurther support would go towards creating opportunities of curiosity\, discovery and exploration for Black and Brown youth and to combat systemic racism and injustice perpetuated in access to STEM education and careers. \nAbout us\nProject Exploration\, founded in 1999\, is a Chicago non-profit organization whose mission is to provide STEM (science technology engineering and math) education\, youth development and community-led initiatives especially for Black and Brown youth in the South and West Sides. \nThis mission is carried out through three main initiatives: Direct Service Programs\, The Austin Experience\, and the Chicago STEM Pathways Cooperative. \nDirect Service Programs or the Youth Science Pathway (YSP) Program provides after-school and out-of-school time project-based learning opportunities for students in K-12 programs in Chicago Public Schools and in the SLC in Bethel New Life in Austin. Read more with an update about these programs below. And see this photo of two students studying anatomy from the Little Sisters4Science Program\, part of the YSP program at the SLC. \nProject Exploration serves as the anchor organization for the Austin branch of the My Chi My Future initiative called The Austin Experience (@the_austinexperience on Instagram). The initiative that aims to bring families together and out-of-school time organizations to create community-led events and change the narrative around life and youth in Austin. \nAnd finally the STEM Pathways Co-operative is a convening of organizations that aims to organize events and opportunities to provide access to STEM careers\, pipelines and unique educational opportunities based on the needs of particular communities especially on the West and South Sides of Chicago. The STEAMbassadors program\, an initiative of the STEM Co-op\, provides college and college-aged students the opportunity to serve as facilitators\, mentors and explore STEAM careers while engaging with youth. You may have the chance to meet some of them at the event below! \nWhat is Giving Tuesday?\nGiving Tuesday started in 2012 as an initiative from the 92nd St. Y in New York City and has since grown into an international day of giving back. \nProject Exploration has participated in Giving Tuesday for the past few years and benefitted from the funding\, conversations and connections that this event has generated. \nYou’re invited December 3rd!\nJoin us December 3rd from 6 pm to 8 pm for our Giving Tuesday Extravaganza Event hosted at the STEM Learning Center (SLC) in Austin (4950 W Thomas St.\, Chicago IL 60651). We will soiree in-person with competitive games\, science-based activities and opportunities for connection and community-building. \nMedia will be shown describing our programs and we will also livestream the event\, with opportunities for interactions from viewers engaging from afar. Don’t miss this fun opportunity and chance to give back while having fun! And stay tuned for updates on our newsletter and Instagram (@projexplore). \nLatest news from PE\nProject Exploration is in their eighth week of program focusing on engineering curriculum with projects on parachutes\, solar cars and electrical energy. Read the latest about incorporating social and emotional skills education into STEM in this blog post. \nThe Austin Experience just hosted their fourth annual Austoberfest in collaboration with many city\, youth-serving and Austin-based organizations. With over 400 attendants this event was impossible to miss. Watch the recap video here. \nAnd the Chicago STEM Pathways Co-operative continues providing unique learning experiences like the Parent STEM Academy which got to explore curiosity and stewardship in nature with an outdoor event organized in collaboration with the Shedd Aquarium. See photos and read about that outing in this blog post photo essay here.
