STEM in the CHI builds bridges for students to experience Chicago’s premier science organizations during school breaks.
Project Exploration (PE) has created transformative learning opportunities for youth underrepresented in the sciences –particularly students of color and girls – for more than 21 years.
For Spring Break 2021, PE has partnered with Gateway to the Great Outdoors and the James Dyson Foundation to get students of all ages outside, and to experience the great opportunities Chicagoland’s premier science organizations have to offer. To get involved, we have two great opportunities for you:
This STEMkit, assembled by Project Exploration and Gateway to the Great Outdoors, will keep your K-8 grade student busy all of Spring Break on their own time, and includes a STEM in the Chi t-shirt and enamel pin. Filled with hands-on activities and supplies from nearly a dozen of Chicago’s premier science organizations, students will “visit” locations throughout the Chicagoland area virtually while completing challenges, building their STEM skills, and earning virtual badges.
This virtual summit, presented by Project Exploration and the James Dyson Foundation, will provide virtual engagement opportunities for K-12th grade students on Zoom in a wide array of STEM disciplines. Students will choose the opportunities that are most interesting to them from multiple organizations – from coding to aviation to rocketry and more – and work with real world mentors to build their skills and get an idea for what a career in that field could look like!
