Kelsey Galante is Project Exploration’s newest team member. She has jumped in and gotten involved in various Project Exploration’s with an emphasis in coordinating Science Giants and a new project in the Austin community, more to come!
A Bloomingdale, IL native Kelsey earned her Master’s in Secondary Education from the University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL). She came to Chicago and taught high school math for 4 years in the North Lawndale community. Kelsey is looking forward to transition her classroom experiences and bring science alive in the out of school time. Leading Science Digests she will have the chance to expose families from the Chicago Youth Centers community to fun science!
Though she stepped out of the classroom, she still wanted to be involved with education.and connecting with PE programs was a fit. She joined the Project Exploration team because she wanted to part of building STEM education opportunities and work with underrepresented youth. Kelsey feels that what she learned at UMSL and her personal philosophy to gear activities to meet multiple learning styles will be a valuable to her work at Project Exploration.
Kelsey led her first Science Digest day on November 3rd and loved working with students during the various activities and specifically enjoyed watching the participants get so excited for the popsicle stick marshmallow catapults. “It was such a joy seeing students working together and coming up with adjustments to their designs in order to make the marshmallows fly farther and higher.”
There is more to come with Kelsey, as she will be working on developing programming with the STEM Learning Center!
