Other organizations were slow to respond or scaled down.
PE listened to our students and stepped up.

Work for PE

We are always interested in talking to outstanding STEM and teaching professionals who may be interested in joining our talented team. Part-time positions are available all year-round for candidates who want to delivery programs to our K-12 students in the out of school time setting or during school breaks.

Programs led by STEM Facilitators provide students with hands-on, authentic experiences which will build scientific skills, fuel curiosity, and encourage students to identify themselves as scientists with hands-on science experiments that demonstrate the power and versatility of scientific inquiry. STEM Facilitators are expected to work in a trauma-informed, collaborative manner with PE’s Program Managers, students, and their families as they lead programs, field trips, and prepare for a culminating event or Reflection of Knowledge in which students share what they learned.

Provide In-Kind Support

When students participate in PE programs, they earn points for participation which can then be traded for prizes from PE’s Explore Store at the end of each program session. We look for generous donors to help us fulfill student wishes and allow donors to purchase Explore Store prizes for individual families via PE’s Amazon Wish List. You’ll also find program supplies and equipment on our wishlist which allow us to scale up our supply and equipment provisions for students and provide more specialized opportunities. Browse our Amazon Wish List.

Project Exploration is also still working to bridge the digital divide among our students. Months into the pandemic and in the midst of e-learning, many of the families we serve are still estimated to lack adequate devices for their kids to fully engage in e-learning and enrichment opportunities, such as those provided by PE. If you have high-quality, fully functioning devices (e.g. tablets, laptops) you are willing to donate to an enrolled PE student or our program spaces, please complete the form below.

In these unprecedented times, monetary donations provide PE with the flexibility to respond immediately to the growing and changing needs of our youth. Project Exploration has provided transformative learning opportunities to 20,000 Chicago youth in our 20 year history and our efforts work! A ten year longitudinal study revealed that our students are three times more likely to enroll in a four-year college than their peers, and over one-third of PE alumni major in a STEM-related discipline. With your help, we can ensure continued, equitable access to STEM programs and careers for 700 Chicago students this year. You contributions provide:

  • STEMkits, which are assembled and delivered to our young people to make sure they have all the supplies they need to participate in PE programs from home

  • Talented program facilitators to bring high-quality, hands-on STEM programs to our students

  • Professional development opportunities for our facilitators who will teach nearly 600 youth this summer!

  • Devices for our young learners

  • Prizes in our Explore Store to keep students engaged in STEM learning and promote parent involvement, which is linked to the academic success of children

  • STEMbus and PE pop up outings to reach new families – our programs are always free to ensure there are never barriers to high-quality STEM education opportunities for families!

  • Resources to meet the growing needs of families under PE Cares – including the ability to help families navigate job loss, food insecurity, violence, business and school closures, and more!

  • Personal protective equipment and supplies to ensure we’re ready to bring our young people and staff back to in-person programs safely!

  • Capacity to sustainably respond to the growing and changing needs of South and West side families

PE seeks to raise $100,000 from new individual donors this year and we hope you’ll join us in helping our young people reach their full potential. Please learn more about our impact and make a donation today:
