Over the last five years, Project Exploration has worked with Ten80 Education to bring high-quality engineering programming to Chicago’s youth. Ten 80 is a team of STEM, education and business professionals dedicated to cultivating a STEM Ecosystem that unites and inspires the next generation of entrepreneurial thinkers and innovators, empowering ALL students to thrive in a world of constant innovation.
On the morning of Tuesday, September 18th, Ten80 Education hosted its Innovators-in-Training Tour at Drury Lane Theater in Oakbrook. Over 500 high school students from the Chicagoland area gathered to take part in this event. These students attended an interactive panel where they asked experts questions including, ‘How do you use STEM in your everyday life?’ and ‘What is your why?’ Project Exploration’s Kamentha Pillay was one of those expert panelists. Kamentha led the conversation about how pursuing STEM can lead to limitless possibilities. She shared that her ‘why’ has everything to do with providing all students an equitable opportunity to have high-quality learning experiences.
The students then participated in various workshops engaging in multiple tracks on particular STEM topics. They participated in Ten80 modules including RC Cars and UAV Challenge which are programs that are beginning implemented this year with both Project Exploration’s Explore Engineering Program and at the West Side STEM Learning Center.
